support Julie, Human Resources Administrator, Smiths Group plc After graduating from University, with a BA Honours in Human Resources Management, I never thought I would join such a dynamic and diverse company as Smiths. I recently joined Smiths Group plc, in January 2005, currently working as a Human Resources Administrator at our Group Head Office in London. The prospect of working for Smiths, a multinational and hugely diverse company terrified me, but everyone has been really supportive. The biggest challenge for me was understanding the structure of the business and the four divisions that Smiths Group have. This was made easy by the thorough induction programme that had been prepared for me prior to my start. Within my first two months I had visited a business from each of the four divisions, including Smiths Detection in Germany. I found having a full understanding of the company gave me a sound base to start building on and has already helped me develop in my role.I have been fortunate to be part of the Smiths Group Graduate Development programme 'Horizons'. Horizons has allowed me to build strong networks with people in different business areas and professions, who I otherwise would not have met, and also built on my existing knowledge of the Smiths Group. The programme has helped me to broaden my personal and business skills which I know will continue to develop for the duration of the programme and beyond. My experiences to date have far exceeded any expectations I initially had. The last eight months have been exciting and challenging. I look forward to the challenges ahead and hope to have a long and successful career with the Smiths Group. |
